At-Issueness, Scope, and Coherence (ASC)

In this workshop from July 9 to 10, 2018, organized by the project C06 "Prominence in subordinating rhetorical relations" of the Collaborative Research Center 1252 "Prominence in Language", we want to analyse the interaction between coherence relations, scope and at-issue/not-at-issue content distinction and their relation to a more general category of prominence in discourse. For example it has been shown that discourse relations play a role in the interpretation of embedded propositions as at-issue or not-at-issue (Schlenker 2013), as well as that the position of an appositive relative clause in its matrix clause has influence on the accessibility for rejection in subsequent context (Syrett and Koev 2015). These and other related phenomena will be in the focus of this workshop.

Everybody is very welcome to attend. If you plan so, please send an informal registration to Frank Zickenheiner (frank.zickenheiner[at]uni-koeln.de), so that we can we can plan accordingly for refreshments and inform you about future updates.
