National Networking

Workshop series CRC-Networking (Berlin - Bielefeld - Frankfurt - Cologne - Potsdam - Saarbrücken)

This series of network meetings brings together researchers from the CRCs in Berlin, Cologne, Potsdam and Saarbrücken. The aim is to discuss shared themes and methodological approaches of the CRC 1412 „Register: Language Users' Knowledge of Situational-Functional Variation"CRC 1252 „Prominence in Language“, CRC 1102 „Information Density and Linguistic Encoding“ and CRC 1287 „Limits of Variability in Language“. As of 2024, the CRCs 1629 „Negation in Language and Beyond (NegLaB)" (Frankfurt) and 1646 „Linguistic Creativity in Communication" (Bielefeld) also participate in this series of network meetings.

Thematic workshops are organized on topics that are shared by different projects across the CRCs. PIs are welcome to initiate and organize meetings on specific topics.

2. CRC-Networking Workshop

The 2nd networking meeting will focus on discourse. We will discuss the relevance of discourse for the research questions of our CRCs, including the issues:

  • discourse structure (rhetorical relations, QUDs, and the like)
  • discourse connectives, discourse particles
  • clause combining (subordination, coordination, etc.)
  • influence of discourse context on the interpretation of linguistic expressions (e.g. pronouns, definites, ellipsis, etc.)
