SFB-Networking (Berlin - Cologne - Potsdam - Saarbrücken)

This series of network meetings brings together researchers from the CRCs in Berlin, Cologne, Potsdam and Saarbrücken. The aim is to discuss shared themes and methodological approaches of the CRC 1412 „Register: Language Users' Knowledge of Situational-Functional Variation"CRC 1252 „Prominence in Language“, CRC 1102 „Information Density and Linguistic Encoding“ and CRC 1287 „Limits of Variability in Language“.

Thematic workshops are organized on topics that are shared by different projects across the CRCs. PIs are welcome to initiate and organize meetings on specific topics.

4. SFB-Networking Workshop: Alternatives, Contexts, and Variation

The 4th networking meeting will focus on alternatives, contexts and variation and will be hosted by our new networking partner, the SFB 1412 "Register: Language Users' Knowledge of Situational-Functional Variation".

Dates: July 4/5, 2022

3. SFB-Networking Workshop: Relation of Prominence, Surprisal and Information Structure

The 3rd networking meeting will focus on the relation of prominence, surprisal and information structure.

Dates: July 15/16, 2021

Place: Saarbrücken

2. SFB-Networking Workshop: Discourse

The 2nd networking meeting will focus on discourse.

Dates: November 14/15, 2019

Place: Cologne

Discourse is the topic of the 2nd networking meeting of the three CRCs Cologne, Potsdam and Saarbrücken taking place in Cologne on November 14-15, 2019. We will discuss the relevance of discourse for the research questions of our CRCs, including the issues:

  • discourse structure (rhetorical relations, QUDs, and the like)
  • discourse connectives, discourse particles
  • clause combining (subordination, coordination, etc.)
  • influence of discourse context on the interpretation of linguistic expressions (e.g. pronouns, definites, ellipsis, etc.)
