C02 - Tense and aspect in discourse

Project C02 investigates the temporal structuring of discourse, i.e. the aspectual shaping, temporal anchoring, ordering and perspectivizing of eventualities. This kind of prominence structure is based on tense-aspect categories in interplay with situation types, co-textual information (e.g. adverbs) and interpretational mechanisms (e.g. coherence relations). We compare French and Spanish corpus data. Additionally, Italian is treated. A doctoral subproject investigates Portuguese. We verify our findings through experimental methods such as acceptability studies and forced-choice tests.
