This project investigates how pauses function as cues to prosodic prominence in German and French. We analyse production data from longer monologues and spontaneous dialogues to establish whether and how pauses occur with prosodic prominence. In addition, we test the relevance of pauses and their interaction with other prominence-related parameters in the perception and processing of prosodic prominence through perception experiments. A08 aims to expand the CRC 1252’s understanding of prosodic prominence as a multidimensional phenomenon.
